FAMILY PATTERNS: How to get rid of them?

FAMILY PATTERNS: How to get rid of them? Im glad for your visit. I want to continue with a series of tips for self-improvement, in this case I will refer to family patterns, which are, how to identify the negatives and how to overcome them.

There is a widespread idea that says: "You are your family", In many respects this statement is true, it is the family bosom that shapes our psychology from childhood.

What are family patterns?

Well, a family pattern refers to a set of behaviors that repeatedly occur in the daily life of a family group. Normally each behavior has pre-defined roles that are adopted by a family member and the behavior, almost without modifications, is carried out as if it were a script.

Examples of this type of pattern are: sexual, psychological, verbal aggression. Infidelity. Alcoholism or drug use. Sexual promiscuity. Machismo.

Most of the cases are behaviors learned and inherited by generations. It is the case of a well-known saying. The [LAST NAME] family members are great [DESPECTIVE QUALIFICATION].

The different roles in a behavior are: The aggressor, the addict, the submissive dependent, the perpetrator, the victim, etc.

How to recognize patterns?

Nobody knows your family better than yourself, but you will find it difficult to determine a pattern for yourself. If you have a partner or a very trusted friend, this person can tell you negative behaviors that they have observed in you and what are the factors that trigger those reactions. For example, do you have fits of anger? When do you have them? For what reason do you have them? An honest criticism will help you to identify if the same behavior that they mention to you has happened before in your family.

Make a list with each negative behavior that you identify.

Already recognized them How do I deal with them?

This is another point that you cannot do alone, you need the support of your partner or someone who appreciates you and whom you trust.

God, this is the first place you should go. In prayer give him in his hands that area in which you are weak. Then ask that person to let you know that you are engaging in the same behavior every time they notice. In this way you can recognize the frequency of your reactions and apply alternative behaviors. For example, if you are getting angry, then you will talk with the person against whom you feel anger and you will try to reach an agreement.

Little by little, you will learn to recognize the situations that trigger these negative behaviors and you will develop habits that will make you avoid reacting as always. If, for example, the problem is an addiction such as drugs or alcohol, then it may be advisable to seek professional help to deal with the need for that addiction.
